Name: Cortlan Brown
Age: 25
Height: 5”11”
Favorite style of race: Stage Racing
Major goal for 2014: I want to get on the podium of a NRC race, and to be a factor in races not just there making up the numbers.
What’s the biggest factor of motivation outside of cycling that inspires your efforts in racing and training?
My wife is a big inspiration for me. She seems to have it all figured out and still has time to race. Also my friends, family, and coach. All of them are proud of me and are there to help me reach my fullest potential. Its inspiring to have that kind of support makes me want to work hard every day.
Everyone on the team could choose what litespeed frame they wanted. Tell us about your choice…
One of my first bikes was a Ti Litespeed, I really loved the bike, but I wanted to do something different with the carbon bike and it’s a great fit for my riding style. I’ve only heard great things about it so I’m pretty excited for it.
What’s one thing about 2013 that you’ve been thinking about since it happened, and are desperate to make right in 2014…
Last year was a great one but I feel like there were a few times that I could have gotten into what ended up being the winning break (one at Joe Martin in particular) and I just hesitated. This year I don’t want to second guess a thing and leave it all out on the road, every day. (Except rest days!)
You work, you study, and you’re a professional cyclist. What’s your trick to being on top of time management, and please can you teach us?
First of all I couldn’t do any of it without the support of my friends and family, especially my Wife, Amber. Secondly, I have a super understanding boss at Bountiful Bicycle. With a bit of focus you can find the time, it isn’t always easy but I consider myself lucky to be where I am.
If everything goes perfectly in the next 3 years with cycling, where do you see yourself at the end of it?
First of all I will have a lot more strava KOM’s than I do now! But seriously, I would love to be on a pro-conti level team and better if I can. I like to take things one step at a time.
Note from the team: “Cortlan is one of the most adaptable riders on the team. His versatility is a great asset as well as his ability to learn. If he continues to improve at the rate he has been, you’ll know his name soon”.
