Astellas Cycling Team were expecting the worst weather they have raced in all season when they came to Ireland. They were understandably ecstatic that the first stage was far from it. A war (for Ireland) 55 degrees had them really looking forward ot a change from teh US scene and they were ready to go.

Joe Martin Stage Race Report
The Annual Joe Martin Stage Race started with an uphill time trial. The further we head into the future the more advanced this specific discipline comes, with many teams having the use of wind tunnels to test aerodynamics on their time trial specific bikes. The more aerodynamic you are, the faster you can go on a bicycle, with less effort. Its a win, win. However, making the time trial uphill, means all futuristic looking aerodynamically perfect bicycles are rendered useless and everyone opts to ride a standard road bike in search of saving as much weight as possible from their bike. Great for us at Astellas!

Redlands Classic Race Report

It has been a busy first month for the team with over 6000 miles driven in the team van through 20 different states. The van did stop from time to time so the team could train. At the end of this first month was the Redlands Bicycle Classic.

Stage 1 was a 12.9 km / 7.8mi

The location was Big Bear Lake at an altitude of over 6000 feet. With most of the guys on normal road bikes and with no one that lived at altitude we were never going to make it into the top of the results that day. The stage was won by Chad Haga from Optum with our Coulton Hartrich around 30 seconds behind.
